Restaurant From Another World is hardly the kind of show that interests me. It’s literally just people with more exciting lives than the ones we’re being shown walk into a restaurant and eat what they call “divine food”. It’s kind of similar to Food Wars! in that aspect where it’s people eating food and people admiring the food… A little too much. But it’s not as over-the-top. In fact, it’s quite relaxing to lay down and just watch beautifully designed characters calmly enjoy meals as I fall asleep. The best part is: it doesn’t try to do anything, really. It doesn’t have a plot we need to be concerned about. We can fall asleep to the show and move onto the next episode and it won’t feel like we missed out on some big plot point.
For the same reason, we don’t even need to read the subtitles. I mean, it’s pretty self- evident what they are doing just by watching them. They’re eating. There’s not much else to it than that. So, don’t stress yourself over it. Yeah, it’s nothing exciting to watch. But it’s a nice break from your average anime to just sit down and look at the neat scenery and enjoy!
The aesthetic is as elegant as it can be without overpowering the equally elegant designs of the characters themselves, it’s relaxing as it stands to be mellow instead of engaging and it’s endearing as the characters feel genuine in their joyful attitudes. It’s hard to disagree with this show’s motive and I, for one, am happy I finally have an anime I can fall asleep to.
